The lotus is the symbol of beauty,
Prosperity and fertility,
According to Hinduism,
Within each human inhabiting the earth
Is the spirit of the sacred lotus?

Lotus represents eternity, purity
And divinity and is widely used
As a symbol of life, fertility,
Ever-renewing youth to describe
Feminine beauty, especially the eyes-

The most common metaphysical analogies
Compares the lotus' perennial rise
To faultless beauty from a miry environment
To the evolution of man's consciousness-

From instinctive impulses, spiritual liberation-
In the Bhagavad Gita, man is adjured to be
Like the lotus, he should live and work
With no attachment,
Dedicating his actions to God-

Untouched by sin like water on a lotus leaf
The beautiful flower standing high above the mud
And water-In postures of hatha yoga,
Lotus position, padmasana, adopted by those
Striving to reach highest level of consciousness,

With itself is found in the thousand-petals
Lotus chakra at the top of the head-
For Buddhists, Lotus symbolizes
The most exalted state of man-His head
Held high, pure, undefined in the sun,
His feet rooted in the world of experience.

My dear beautiful friend. This is SO lovely. I not only learned a lot but was moved and inspired by what I learned. I LOVE these two lines:

"...His head Held high, pure, undefined in the sun, His feet rooted in the world of experience."

When I read this it reminded me of my own life. It was as if you gave me words for how I love to live, with my head lifted to the sun and undefined unknown, were I find my god. And my feet sooooo strongly root in all of my life's expereinces.

You are very wise. I love you and am always so happy to see and experience you.

Thank you my dear,

Hello sfauthor,

Thank you for the link to those great books. I have bookmarked the link for myself to use in a future reference.

From the Introduction

You are about to have the profound pleasure of reading one of the truly great books in the history of the world. Not only is it a spiritual monument—an essential scripture of Hinduism, recited daily for two millennia and to this very day, whose teachings have spread throughout Asia and around the globe—it is also a literary masterpiece, the linchpin of a great epic of war and peace, honor and disgrace, loyalty and betrayal. It is a book people everywhere in the world return to again and again throughout their lives for insight into the nature of reality.

What the Critics are Saying

“This is a luminous translation that performs the exceptional feat of bringing the Gita fully alive in a Western language, combining accuracy with accessibility. In our troubled times, humanity needs the message of this sacred scripture as never before.”
—Karen Armstrong
Author of The Great Transformation and A History of God

Excellent link!

With appreciation, Zuzanna

Dear Friend, Robin

My thoughts were about having educational write about Lotus flower. The thought was hunting my mind for a long time. Western world is not as much aware of other Cultures when comes to Lotus itself. We know the beauty of it, and it is actually one of the most amazing water lilies I ever known. There is mysticism about this flower. Just as you described your feelings, this applies to a higher state of mind of people who are well grounded like yourself. I am SO GLAD that this write brought some meaning to you.
My feeling is of the same. A person who is well balanced with life will have similar experience.

I too learn from your posts and the reward is mutual. Thank you from all my heart!

Love you my beautiful friend!
Best wishes,

amazing zuzanna :)
It felt like my mom speaking to me about why most Hindu gods are depicted sitting on Lotus and their sitting posture. The posture is one of the yogaasnas you mentioned

Hello Ranjith

It is amazing hearing this from you! I am studying more and more about this Lotus flower. My name means Lotus from Egyptian Mythology. This is why my name evolves often around that flower. It is Mysticism along with Wisdom that accompanies this special flower. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me.

Hi Zuzanna. Is it true that the lotus flower is an ideal "device" to use in order to help you stop smoking?

Dear Zuzanna,

How many times have I told you that your name is so beautiful? :)

My mother is Chinese. The lotus flower is a very strong, endearing, and enduring symbol in the Chinese culture, we have dances to celebrate it, festivities and legends to interpret it and keep in strong throughout the generations... it is like the jade and the dragon, to us. :)

Thank you so much for your very kind comment on my blog. :) You are always very welcome to read my writings. :)
